Ward-Humphrey General Contractors delivered the new Douglas County Coroner’s Office, a purpose-built public safety facility designed to support forensic operations, mass-casualty readiness, and sensitive family interactions for Douglas County.

Delivered using a fast-tracked design-build approach, the approximately 4,200-square-foot facility consolidates coroner operations into a single, modern building located adjacent to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office complex. The facility includes private offices, a family viewing room, secure autopsy and body storage areas, evidence and specimen handling zones, and dedicated decontamination spaces, all designed to support clear workflow separation, biosecurity, and regulatory compliance.

Additional features include a drive-through sally port, private entry vestibules for decedents, and specialized HVAC and exhaust systems to support environmental control and staff safety. Despite a compressed schedule and budget constraints, Ward-Humphrey worked closely with county stakeholders to prioritize program needs, manage costs proactively, and maintain schedule certainty throughout design and construction.

The completed facility provides Douglas County with a durable, secure, and efficient coroner’s office that meets modern forensic standards while offering a respectful, functional environment for staff and families.
